Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/01/2015

Number: 40

We have 42 acres and in our lower pasture land we have milkweed and other native plants (weeds) for Wisconsin along with the grass for our horses. We also have a woods along this. On top of our hill we have let a horse riding arena go natural and another small piece of land beside it. There is also a woods there. We have noticed so many more Monarchs this year than "ever." It is so thrilling. They have been here for at least a week and have been just flying near us and Bob said 2 were hooked together and flying into the woods. We are not that knowledgeable about them except that we watch the PBS-Nova special over and over. Hoping they have found a haven here on their travels. We do some mowing of the pasture but are very careful to go around milkweed. We also have Department of Natural Resources land across the road from us which has plenty of milkweed. I really would like to learn more about our special guests here in Wisconsin at this time. Hard to count but at least 40 or more even.
