We observed our first monarch butterfly today, feeding on the swamp milkweeds we planted in early June. We previously had seen other butterfly species and various bees on the milkweed, but this was the first time we actually saw a monarch. She/he spent a lot of time flying from flower to flower. At one point, it flew away, but soon returned, again to feed. We estimate that she/he fed on the milkweed about 30+ minutes.
