Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers
Sightings report image

Date: 08/08/2015

Number: 1

I planted Ironweed (Vernonia noveboracensis), a native wildflower, in my yard a few years ago to attract butterflies. An additional, very entertaining benefit of this pant is watching the immature Ruby-throated Hummingbirds climb around the stems to access the nectar in the tiny, individual tubular flowers that make up the flower heads.
