Today at 5:50 PM, I observed a Monarch Butterfly go pass my back yard in a directional flight from Northeast to Southwest about 12 feet high above the ground and then flying over the tree tops at about 40 feet high. The flight was steady and I saw the monarch for about 1/10th of a mile. The day is sunny, Temperature 74 F., and Wind NW-18 mph. The previous earliest date had been August 18th since record keeping began in 2010.
