I had one male monarch patrolling the flower garden, stopping momentarily from flower to flower. A female ruby throated hummingbird came to the feeder and suddenly the monarch chased the hummingbird high into the sky. I was surprised at the speed of that monarch. It was as fast as the hummingbird. Then the hummingbird flew down, like a rocket, and the monarch came back at normal speed. But when the hummingbird came back to the feeder, the monarch chased it again. I guess he thought he was the Alpha Male. He continued his patrol until dark.
