Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 08/14/2015

Number: 39

Greetings from Virginia's Eastern Shore!
This is a belated report, so it may need adjustment for accuracy on the date...but wanted to celebrate that FINALLY eggs were laid and caterpillars resulted here in my yard! I discovered tiny caterpillars on both my common and swamp milkweed about 2 weeks ago...and now have 39 chrysalises on the side porch in various nets, critter containers and also just hanging on leaves and even on the wall...which is usual! They appear healthy, with no fatalities happening with any caterpillars! Hope to have fresh new adults beginning in about a week! Enjoyed sharing the experience with our 6-yer-old grandson who was visiting...and he could add the knowledge that this happens all over, as they had already had a crop of their own in their yard in Chicago! (I had been jealous they had monarchs before I did!) I love that he and his parents are continuing the family tradition and learning to care about these marvelous creatures!
