At 3:30 PM, very sunny afternoon. A female monarch, very good shape, not tattered, not really very large, maybe medium. She was first feeding on nearby butterfly bush blossoms. Then she landed several times on a milkweed plant next to my deck. She appeared to be on the underside of one leaf but I did not find evidence of an egg after she left. This is the first I have seen in a long while, so now I will be on the lookout for more. Milkweed is plentiful here in a large field adjacent to my backyard.
