Just after 9 am I spotted a monarch flying around my home's front yard, then nectaring, then flying around the immediate neighborhood to bask on a neighbor's shrub or "cruise for chicks," then returning to the front yard to nectar. I was able to verify by photo that it was a male. He nectared on Orange Profuison Zinnia, Butterflyweed [Asclepias tuberosa] and Bloodflower [Asclepias currassivica]. He spent perhaps 30 minutes in my front yard [Monarch Waystation #271], then disappeared. He seemed very crisp and brightly colored and did not appear to display any obvious directional flight.
