This strong male has patrolled my gardens for several weeks, mating with females, sparring with males. I didn't realize that monarch males were so aggressively territorial. He has a torn wing in several places from his tireless dawn to dusk patrolling, 2 tornadic storms, and mating and chasing off rivals.
His genes will be passed down to the next migratory generation, who will fly to Mexico.
