I was walking my dog in a secluded but open grassy area, when all at once this (smallish) Monarch fluttered up into the air from (I think) the ground, and then explored some leafy tree branches at the edge of the surrounding woods, where (I think) it perched. I was elated to see it, as Monarchs, once plentiful in this area, have become rare, despite the presence of milkweed and of their favorite migration foods (e.g., red clover, NE aster). Sorry, didn't have a camera with me, will know better next time...
