Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/26/2015

Number: 4

I am not a gardener by any means, but for the butterflies, especially for the monarchs, I became one in June 2015 by creating a butterfly garden complete with common milkweed and a hybrid (miniature) milk weed.

It is not the most beautiful garden,(yet) but it was to one monarch butterfly (or more)!

I was gone for a month and when I came home, weeds were choking out my poor flowers. So, today I set out to get rid of them. When I left for vacation in July, there was only one common milkweed growing. Today I counted 12! And as I counted them, I discovered the 4 monarch caterpillars.

I will raise them to adults! It has been 20 years since I raised monarch caterpillars. Back in 1995, monarchs in all stages could be found easily! I hope my efforts along with many other folks will bring back millions and millions of monarchs again.
