Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/27/2015

Number: 2

While watering my butterfly garden a female monarch fluttered around sipping nectar and laying eggs. I took note of the milkweeds she visited so I could go egg collecting. She ignored the mature milkweed plants that now have pods but rather sought out the tinier swamp and common milkweeds to lay eggs. After she left I got my collection box and inspected plants she visited and others in the garden as well. A second collecting bonanza with another 32 eggs gathered. One leaf had two eggs deposited. Currently I am tending to 64 eggs, 2 small cats and monitoring 20 chrysalis which should begin to emerge this weekend. Hopefully my tags will arrive in time to begin compiling my release data.
