Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/28/2015

Number: 10

10 Chrysalis and 7 large cats in protected enclosure to date. Only two flying adults sighted in nine days. No evidence of eggs to be found on dozens of fully grown milkweed (Asclepias tuberosa & Ascelpias syriaca) planted in the ground.

Note: Experience the last 4 months. Any Cats not protected become prey to red wasp. For awhile we were planting milkweed to feed the wasp. 0% survival. Started transferring eggs into protected enclosure. 97% success rate currently. We are experimenting with controlling aphids with ladybugs. We see no evidence of these Ladybugs eating Cats watching under close scrutiny. They simply ignore each other.

This is our first season creating a habituate for Monarchs. Input appreciated.
