Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/29/2015

Number: 5

Yesterday was the beginning of a big drop off in numbers of hummingbirds at my feeders. There were four or five flying around all day at any given time, but they weren't swarming the feeder as they had been in days past, with four on the feeder at a time and another four trying to body-slam them off of the feeder. It's impossible for me to know whether the hummers I see are all the same hummers all day, or if there's a relay taking place. And there could be many more than I'm reporting as I'm only telling you how many I see at one time. My sense is there's a whole lot more hanging around, out of sight. Then they emerge when the others take a break. I typically keep my feeders out until mid-October. The latest I've ever seen a hummer was in November, but that was easily 15 years ago.
