20 caterpillars in various stages on marsh milkweed growing in my suburban yard. 1 2nd instar caterpillar on my Aslepias tuberosa.
I've observed an insect that resembles a stink bug attacking the caterpillars. I squished the attacker and covered the tips of my marsh milkweed plants with 1- and 5-gallon mesh paint strainers to protect approximately 14 caterpillars.
I'm uploading a picture of one branch of marsh milkweed containing 5 caterpillars (only 4 show up).
