Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 08/30/2015

Number: 20

Late Instars in Whitby

We found 20 4th and 5th instars this afternoon along Halls Rd in Whitby (Lynde Shores Conservation Area). There was a smaller number of 1st and seconds, some only a few hours from hatching. It would appear that there is going to be a large number of eclosures in about two weeks. We tagged three adults. Another adult was flying very well despite the complete absence of the right hind wing.
