Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 08/31/2015

Number: 75

It is about 80 degrees today with high humidity. They are roosting in our black locust trees. There are about 50 there and another 25 in some box elders about 200 feet to the east. They are feeding in our alfalfa field. The alfalfa and red clover are at their peak of flowering. About 10 years ago we had about 400-500 in the same trees. We haven't noticed many the last few years. We have been encouraging milkweed plants lately but taking about 2 acres out of production
