Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/31/2015

Number: 25

I have never seen anything like it!

At least 25 (maybe as many as 40) hummers buzzing my 1 acre wild flower field presumably hunting insects this evening. It went on for at least an hour. We've had a week of cool weather but today it was in the 80's, with high humidity and winds SSW at 13mph. No hummer at the feeder when this was going on. VERY COOL! I wonder where they'll spend the night!

Where did they come from? They weren’t out there during the day. I first saw them at 5:45 pm. I really didn’t pay them any mind because I thought it was dragonflies, which is a common occurrence. But when I sat down to watch, I thought...those are some big dragonflies. I went out to the field and they were all hummingbirds...and it looked like something out of Alfred Hitchcock movie! It continued all through dinner and after an hour we went inside and they were still there.

I’ve never had more than 5 hummers at a time, so this was crazy!
