Although I did not see any monarch eggs or caterpillars on my milkweed plants in my garden this summer (there were many in summer 2014), this morning I saw a monarch sunning itself on the side of my deck. It appeared fresh and newly eclosed - its wings still looked a bit soft, but it quickly flew away to rest up high in a tree. I did not get to confirm its sex.
