Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 09/01/2015

Number: 26

It has been the best year for monarch larva. They are prolific, and we have been able to teach the life cycle with real larva and watch them form their chrysalis in science class. The students will release them as they hatch in the next couple weeks. We had an abnormally rainy, long spring and a cool early summer. Milkweed is everywhere and, in some places, highway mowing was not as intrusive as past years. Plants that were mowed came back thick and are flowering now. Older plants have set seed, pods are large and abundant.
