The monarch was flying around the yard, especially in the vicinity of the vegetable garden where a particular annual is planted (see picture). This flower was its favorite, although it also fed on phlox in another part of the yard. We have milkweed in the yard, and something is eating the leaves, but I have not found signs of what that something is (although there are a number of black ants on the plants). The monarch did not seem to mind that I was standing nearby.
