My resident wrens and hummingbirds have left an empty void in my heart. I have been soothed all summer with their melodious sounds. I feel alone. Haven't seen any robins in last two weeks. A pair of rose-breasted grosbeaks had has spent the summer raising their young in the backyard. Their entire family has dominated the suet feeder, teaching their young to eat. Like old friends - you wish them a safe journey, you miss them while they're gone, and look forward to their return. Just thinking of their memories warms one's heart, and brings a smile.
