Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/04/2015

Number: 19

We've had 2 rainy days, receiving over 4 inches of rain--and our humming birds have been busy--playing tag, aerial games, perching, preening, and enjoying the late season flowers: nasturtiums, Royal catchfly, dicentria luxuriant and scandens, petunias, obedient plants, clematis ragouchi, Indian pinks, phlox. There are at least 4 boys -the rest are females and juveniles. Their games start at daybreak, and at 8 pm our tiny guests left the feeders and went to bed. There is a red, (tomato plastic) flag flying on a hill for migrators to see from afar, and we're using several different feeders in addition to our usual Humm Zingers so our "kids" will recognize and know how to use other feeders as they travel. The little girls are starting to gain weight. In 2014 our "last hummer" left our habitat September 26, 2014.
