Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/05/2015

Number: 35

Finished tagging 100 monarchs tonight. Again we recovered monarchs that were tagged yesterday and two days ago indicating that they are staging, getting fat for migration. Their abdomens have swelled considerably over the past few days and they are in good migratory condition. Most we have collected were large compared to the ones we raised this year, most of those ended up being small. We saw several groups of 4 or 5 tonight and quite a number just fluttering in the trees. Real hard to keep any kind of count!! ie, 35 is a wild guess, could be twice that! You just don't know if you have counted the same one twice or three times! There is one moment I was watching 5 roosting on a twig and 7 fluttering in the trees.
