Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/08/2015

Number: 15

Counted at least 15 monarchs on Mexican Sunflowers (Red Torch) and red zinnias (Cherry Queen) late morning after dwindling counts during the past 5-6 days. There are probably more than 15 this morning (most on the Mexican Sunflowers) as butterflies seemed to be flying in while I observed. I have both Red Torch (a bright red-orange color) and Yellow Torch Mexican Sunflowers, and while I've seen a few monarchs on the yellow flowers throughout the summer, they seem to prefer the Red Torch. Competition between monarchs, hummers and bees on the Mexican Sunflowers and on the red zinnias.
