My husband and I took a 60 mile drive to Maysville, Kentucky and back through the sunny Ohio and Kentucky country side, stopping for walks here and there. In all that time I saw just one monarch in Ripley, and maybe two swallowtails elsewhere (and some cabbage whites). We saw the monarch when we were walking along the riverfront park along the Ohio River. The Monarch was on its way somewhere as it did not stop to nectar on any of the flowers. I don't know if it was migrating but it was flying south.
It was sad to see only three butterflies all day.
