Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 09/08/2015

Number: 1000

Roosting started about a week ago. Tonight there were about 1,000 plus.

There was only about 15 to 30 to start. In the evenings about 7:30 I would notice them drifting in.Each night I would notice a few more, except for last night we noticed alot more. The temperature at last night were hot and humid, I don't think it got below 70 degrees last night. The week temps have been in the close to 90, and very humid. As far as a nectar source we live in a rural area with lots of open fields. We do have a ditch bank full of milkweed. They all seemed to hang on the dead branches, they almost looked like leaves. They seem to stay overnight and bring more the following nights. The monarchs were in my west side wind break. As far as winds, I did see them get blown over the house during a rain storm but they did come back. Yes they are still here. (9/9)
