There are still quite a few caterpillars on the milkweed. As many as 14 have been observed, in several stages of development, on several patches of milkweed throughout the garden. There had been more, however, several have been found dead after turning black, either on the milkweed or the ground below. These have been removed from the area and disposed of. Earlier in the season, after reporting large numbers of caterpillars in a patch of milkweed in another garden, several of the chrysalis were found to be a dark brown/black and nothing had emerged from them.
