Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 09/07/2015

Number: 3

Count has dwindled significantly from previous 30+ last reported. One who started chrysalis was eaten over first night. A skink likely ate many. One larger caterpillar observed had a bright green face, was "writhing" in apparent pain with a shield-shaped hemiptera-like beetle close by--did it do something? The low survival rate is astounding and disheartening and points me toward focusing my energies on changing the real problem which is big farming, big chemical, big development versus what I can achieve with my small habitat. No Monarch butterflies observed. Many swallowtails.
