It's been a disappointing year for monarchs here in Oakland County, Michigan. Last year, I helped raise 25 monarch caterpillars and released them as beautiful butterflies in mid to late September, but this year it looks like I will only have nine adults to release. This week I've seen one or two butterflies in total passing by within a 3 hour period as I sit on my front porch. Last year, there were more than I could keep up with. It just seems like the bad weather earlier in the spring kept them south of here and they never made it to this part of Michigan.
