This sighting was on Gold Bluffs beach in Prairie Creek State Park. It was very warm and sunny with no wind on the beach. I was hiking a loop trail that took us along the beach between fern canyon southward to miners ridge trail. The monarch was fluttering between thistle flowers in a patch alongside the road, landing on the open flowers and presumably feeding. It was in no hurry to go anywhere with all the bull thistle.
