Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 09/10/2015

Number: 10

Good Grief! Returned from the holiday and found that the substantial number of leaves and flowers on my "Hairy Balls" milkweed had been consumed by the Monarch caterpillars. A few leaves were trying to re-sprout, but the cats did not seem interested in them. I moved remaining cats to Swamp Milkweed. Hope they can make the transition without a problem. Larvae on the regular tropical milkweed seem to disappear regularly. I do not know if they make it to chrysalis or not. There is plenty of evidence of nibbles, but some days a larger cat will disappear, but I do not think it large enough to have wandered off to pupate. So much to learn. At least there seem to be more this year. Some fresh eggs too.
