Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/10/2015

Number: 1

I first saw a hummer on September 3,2015 at exactly 6:19 PM. It appeared to be a very small female Rubythroat, nectaring for approximately 45 minutes on a (FL native) Geiger Tree

I did immediately clean and prepare a feeder and sugar water and put out, after she disappeared for the evening, and watched carefully , but did not see her return.

I have several Florida natives through-out the garden, especially for hummers & butterflies. ie- 1/2 dozen blooming Firebush, several Scarlet Sage wildflowers, the Geiger tree, all surrounded by a chain link fence covered in Coral Honeysuckle and Cross Vine, all in full bloom.

Oddly enough, though Ive kept the feeder clean and fresh sugar water, no other sighting until last night, again, exactly 6 :19 PM.

As it was dusk, and I only caught a fleeting glimpse, I couldnt see if this was a male or female, but this time the hummer was much larger, at least twice the size, and was just flying off, from the same area near Geiger tree , feeder and fence covered with Coral Honeysuckle and Cross Vine.

No pix of hummers,(they r fast and shy in Florida!) but I did include a pix of the Coral Honeysuckle .
