I do not know how to tell differences of gender of monarchs or age. Up until yesterday, I've only seen 3 monarchs in my yard. Yesterday they were everywhere. I counted 7 or 8 feeding on my joe pye weed and among other flowers. This year, I planted milkweed and did see a few earlier when they were flowering but never saw them feeding on the plant or laying eggs. They LOVE the joe pye weed though!!
