Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/11/2015

Number: 10

Found several larvae of varying sizes on some unknown milkweed plants that I planted this spring from seeds given me by a friend. This one has a little competition from an aphid. Some of the plants, like this one, have yellow blooms that are considerably lighter than the tuberosa I have in a nearby area. Some of the blooms are a deeper red. This is my first year observing Monarchs. I was surprised to see a larva in September in Alabama, because I had thought the fourth generation was already on the way to Mexico. Guess I need to do some more studying on the Monarch life cycle.
