Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/11/2015

Number: 20

Since my report four days ago on Monday, there has been an appreciable increase in ruby-throated hummingbirds in our backyard, with up to 20 birds estimated to be present. As many as six to eight hummingbirds will attempt to access one particular feeder, which is shaped like the state of Texas and is by far the favorite. Males and females are guarding the feeders, but are often overwhelmed by the numbers of birds trying to feed. Females outnumber the males by about 4 to 1.
