Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/11/2015

Number: 2

While I am certain I have more than 2 birds feeding based on consumption levels today, I only saw 2 birds at once--one immature Ruby throat and one female. The immature is a male with a single gorget feather glowing at his throat. He spent the day trying to protect all 4 feeders.
I have not seen any adult males since I returned home on Sept 2nd. I had many more hummers last year early mid Sept but my absence and the drought that has greatly diminished the flowers available has apparently sent the RT hummers southward earlier this year.

Weather--sunny 81F with light E breezes until late in the day when they died down to near calm-- rain forecast tomorrow, possibly heavy thunderstorms
