What difference a day makes! Yesterday, a friend and I counter 48 monarchs per hour for 10 hours for a total of 481 (see PEAK Migration). Today, we counted 1 monarch per hour over 4 hours from 10 am to 2 pm. Why the difference? Perhaps it was the low temperature in the 40's this morning with a high of 58F today. The wind was out of the NE at 16-20 mph which made it feel cooler. I did tag one of the monarchs with letters and numbers UCS 820.
