Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 09/10/2015

Number: 2

I am seeing occasional adults flying through our garden and on our property. Many of them look "fresh" - which leads me to believe they are recently hatched. I was surprised, however, to find two caterpillars (one fairly large, the other still kind of small) on some Milkweed plants near our house. Because the weather has turned cold (and to share this special nature event with my grandson), I have relocated the two caterpillars to a small terrarium inside our home. I am putting in fresh Milkweed leaves each day; they seem to be eating well. I feel like it's kind of late in the season for larvae, though, and wonder if they will survive / form chrysalises, and be able to fly off before it gets colder.
