Sightings report image

Date: 09/13/2015

Number: 4

Four Monarchs appeared about noon and all were feeding in the New England Aster in full sun. There were three females and one male. All of them looked great. I was gone for a good part of the afternoon and when I returned there were still three Monarchs in the same stand of Asters. As the sun slid and the yard became more shaded the Monarchs started moving off. One left the yard, the second headed up into the large cottonwood tree in my front yard. That was about 6:15pm. The thrid Monarch moved to a different stand of Asters near the house so I sat outside and watched it until 7:02pm when it also flew up into the Cottonwood for the night. It went to almost the same exact spot in the tree where the other Monarch was roosting. The wind was strong today, from the South, so I guess they decided to stay and feed since they couldn't make any headway. I've attached a photo of the third Monarch.
