Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 09/13/2015

Number: 9

9 hummers are still entertaining us. At least 2 are immature males. One has a noticeable red spot and the other has very dusky throat feathers. Looks just like adult male except when you look up close. Have seen way more immature males this year than past years. And there are many more hummers migrating thru and visiting our feeders and flowers and staying longer. There is continuous feeding and competition from dawn to dusk. When feeding on flowers they like black and blue salvias, pink salvias and sometimes red & blue fuschia or purple geranium. We'll miss them when they finally leave for the fall. Final departure time for evening roost was 7:46 p.m. Day was sunny and clear in the mid-70's. Clear skies this evening increased feeding time. Dew point is 53 degrees. Winds out of the south.
