Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/14/2015

Number: 5

We had two hummingbirds (one male, one female) appear several times a day during the summer. Twice during the summer, the female was joined by two juveniles. We assumed the additions to be fledglings, because they were not accomplished fliers at first, and at times it appeared that the female lured the male out of the yard so the others could feed.

We now see up to five in the backyard at any given time. Some are noticeably fatter than the others. Males chase each other around. The females appear to be very skittish when they first arrive, and gradually become more comfortable.
