Around 9:20 am we discovered a crumpled monarch drying it's wings next to a newly opened chrysalis. We watched it for some time before discovering two other monarchs drying their wings in the same iris/ milkweed patch. Previously, we observed numerous monarch caterpillars in this same location. After about 2 hours and 20 minutes, the monarch took flight out over the corn field, looped around our house and then was gone. The other two monarchs took flight before the main one we were watching.
