Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/15/2015

Number: 1

I found the information regarding how the weather, particularly the winds, affect the Monarchs movements.
The interactive map that shows winds does not show how the winds actually flowed over the past 2 days.
We, here in southern CA, finally had some rain. And the winds from that storm front had our winds going every which ways.
At one point it was coming from the west, next it switched to coming from the south, from the east and finally ended up in a swirl pattern that hurled the rain in all directions.
Here in southern CA, that's usually how the winds move~from all directions and suddenly switching or swirling.
This has to have an effect on our Monarchs movement in this western population.
I believe that if this year shapes up to be anything like its counterpart, the 1997 El Nino, I expect we're going to have a large overwintering group of Monarchs to add to the resident Monarchs.
