Was at Santa Rosa Beach Sept 11 - 15. Each day I saw dozens of butterflies both on plants along the dunes as well as flying along the edge of the water. Some were single and some were in groups . Found some wings in the sand on early mornings walks and late afternoon walks. Weather was clear, 80's, on shore breeze in afternoons, off shore breeze in the am, greater numbers in the afternoons.
I had never seen a Gulf F. So identified them as monarchs. I believe I did see GF, I could see some differences in the butterflies but had no knowledge of anything that was close to a monarch. And the time of the year kind of matched the migration, just a little too far south.
