Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/17/2015

Number: 7

7 female or juvenile ruby throats spotted so far today. Have had 9-10 for almost 2 weeks. As noted before at least 2 are juvenile males. Had a new, very small juvenile show up. Will be interesting to see if it stays around for a few weeks like a small hummer did a few years ago that stayed until October 10.
Seeing a lot more cooperation on nectar feeders. Have had 2 on two or more feeders drinking calmly at same time for the last few days. Saw a hummer feeding on salvias in steady rain downpour for first time. Poor thing was drenched! Departure time for evening roosting is moving up 2-4 minutes a day. Cold front moving in today. Could be signal for these little zippers to move on. Expect much earlier roosting this evening due to cloudiness. It's been a great year for watching hummers!
