Signs of Fall

Date: 09/18/2015

Number: 1

We observe that lately it's very rainy and the air is getting colder. Wind is increasing. We went on a nature walk and observed many mushrooms and colorful fungi, and of course lots of leaves on the ground. Most plants are beginning to change color, look wilted, and decompose. We saw many branches of trees had been blown down and old man's beard and lichen and moss were on the ground because of this. People are getting ready for winter, collecting firewood and putting up berries, as well as hunting animals. We are in the middle of moose season, and duck hunting season.
The bark of some trees is falling off because it's water logged. Fireweed has gone to seed. Salmon are spawning and bears are along the riverside feasting. Eagles are arriving more and more to do the same. We have seen termination dust on the mountain tops but it has disappeared, although we know when it is raining in town it is snowing in the mountains. Winter will be here soon.
