Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/19/2015

Number: 5

During a 2-hour bike ride from Lake Calhoun to the Mississippi River and back, we saw 5 monarch butterflies that looked as if they were actively migrating south with a favorable wind and nice sunlight. This was along trails maintained as native prairie for much of the distance. The temperature was in the low 50's when we saw the first of the butterflies, but it warmed quickly over the next 2 hours.
