We walked around the edge of our hayfield at 9am this morning and counted 22 Monarchs. Most were singles, resting on leaves or feeding on red clover. Yesterday afternoon and evening was wet and windy, with overnight temperatures then falling to 10c, the coolest it has been in ages. It was slow to warm up this morning so the butterflies seemed slow to become active compared to previous days.
