Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/19/2015

Number: 6

Yesterday (9/19) we had a high temp of 72 with a light breeze out of the NW. Only had 1 monarch visit our garden. Based on previous years, monarchs start to frequent us in larger numbers around the 18th or so of September.

Today they finally made their appearance around 10:09 am. Seen 4 feeding on sunflowers and milkweed earlier and then 2 more appeared feeding on the butterfly bush. They all were not huddled together but spread out as the garden as well as our neighbors garden is in full bloom. All 6 seemed to be in good health with thick veins and vibarant colors. There were males and females.
They stayed for 4 hours before flying off to the S and SW. We have sunny skies today with a 5-10 mph wind of of the SE. Tonight I will look for roosts. Will also report if we have an uptick in new visitors this afternoon.
